The best time to visit Bandhavgarh is from October to March when the weather is the most pleasant. However, the hot and dry summer (April through June) is the best time for game spotting, since animals congregate at the waterholes. The park is closed from July 1 to September 30.
Wear light cotton clothes in beige or jungle greens during summers and don’t forget to include a cap, dark glasses and sunscreen lotion.
During winters, especially between November and February, carry some warm clothing such as a jacket and sweat top as mornings and evenings tend to be quite chilly.
Make your plans and reservations well in advance, preferably at least 2 months, to ensure availability of air and train tickets.
Trains in India have several types of compartments. We recommend the 2-tier sleeper as it provides the best combination of comfort and value. Though there are multiple train options, tickets for certain compartments tend to get sold out quickly, so book well in advance.
The number of daily safaris to the national park is restricted by the Forest Department through advance reservations requiring a passengers manifest. Though last minute bookings are sometimes available, it is best to plan your safarisin advance.
Since the Bandhavgarh Fort is located within the National Park, advance bookings are required to see the fort as well.
